Function grips from norelem
Function grips combine the purpose of a grip with an additional operating function. This saves space on machinery and equipment and makes operation easier.
In the norelem ‘Function Grips’ category, you can find grips with an integrated locking unit. These are particularly effective for securing drawers. Also available from norelem are pull handles and tubular handles with an electronic switch function. Function grips consist of several components. These components are also available in the range as replacement parts. This ensures your grips remain serviceable long term.
What is a function grip?
A function grip combines a grip and operating function in a single component. They are also referred to as multifunction grips. The operator holds the grip and can simultaneously activate a function. This could be an electrical signal triggered by a push button, or the opening of a mechanical lock.
A classic tubular handle or pull handle on the other hand, has no additional function. Its sole purpose is to open a door or move a component. Function grips often look very similar to these machine handles. There is some additional technology inside however. This means you need no separate operating elements in addition to the grip. Classic grips without any additional functions can be found in the category Tubular Handles.
What types of function grips does norelem offer?
There are several types of function grip available from norelem. The main body is made from metal or plastic, depending on the version. For metal, there is a choice of steel or stainless steel. The plastics used are polyamide and PVC.
Grips with a locking unit
These grips have a built-in locking mechanism. They lock drawers securely and prevent them from opening accidentally. This is important by e.g. mobile workshop trolleys. Here, the drawers must not open whilst the trolley is in motion. There is also a matching conversion set available for existing grips. More information on designs and dimensions can be found on the product page Grips with locking unit.
Pull handles with electronic switch function
The switch function is built directly into these pull handles. These grips have one or two push buttons, depending on the version. The operator can activate a function without letting go of the grip. All technical data can be seen on the product page Pull handles with electronic switch function.
Tubular handles with an electronic switch function
Are there tubular handles with push buttons? Yes, norelem also supplies tubular handles with an electronic switch function. They offer the same advantages as pull handles. You can choose between those with one and two push buttons. The variants available can be viewed on the product pages Tubular handles with electronic switch function.
Where are function grips used?
What is a function grip used for? Whenever movement and operation should be combined. A typical example is mobile units. The operator uses the grip anyway by trolleys and mobile equipment. A push button in the grip can e.g. activate a drive. When the operator lets go, the movement stops.
Function grips are also widely used on machinery. Tubular handles with push buttons are often fitted to safety doors. The operator uses the push button to e.g. request access or confirm a step in the process. In fixtures the push button can be used to start a process directly from the grip. Grips with a locking unit, on the other hand, secure drawers and compartments on trolleys and cupboards.
Which function grip is suitable for which application?
First, select the desired function. If the grip should mechanically secure something, a grip with a locking unit should be chosen. If the grip should send a signal to a control unit, a grip with an electronic switch function should be selected.
A decision on the number of push buttons can then be taken. One push button is sufficient for simple tasks such as starting or enabling. Two push buttons enable two functions to be operated separately. An example of this is raising and lowering a unit.
Finally, select the material. Steel grips are robust and suitable for most indoor applications. Stainless steel is the better choice for damp conditions or where high hygiene standards are required. Plastic is lightweight and feels comfortable even in the cold.
Installation information
Function grips are fitted in the same way as standard grips via the fastening face. The surface should be level and stable. This ensures that the grip is secure and transmits forces safely. Tighten the screws evenly.
By grips with an electronic switch function, the cable routing should be taken into account from the planning stage. The cable is usually routed through the grip to the fastening face. Ensure there is a suitable hole there. Lay the cable without kinks and with tension relief. The electrical connection should always be carried out by a qualified person.°
